South Korea has witnessed a significant surge in the demand for hydrogen in the mobility sector, with a 59% increase in consumption recorded from the previous year. Data from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy revealed that the total consumption of hydrogen in this sector amounted to 6,389 tons in the first nine months of the year, a substantial rise from 4,016 tons in the same period last year. Deputy Minister for Energy Policy Lee Ho-hyeon highlighted the growing presence of hydrogen buses in the country, which is contributing to increased exposure to hydrogen products in everyday life. Recognizing the importance of a stable hydrogen supply for the industry's growth, the government is actively engaging with various stakeholders to monitor the market and ensure seamless communication among ministries, regional governments, and companies. Moreover, the Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority is set to conduct on-site inspections at hydrogen facilities nationwide to uphold market stability and support the burgeoning hydrogen mobility sector. These collective efforts underscore South Korea's commitment to advancing hydrogen as a key player in the country's transportation and energy landscape.
