TriMet, Portland's public transit provider, held an in-person open house to reveal progress on the 82nd Avenue Transit Project and receive feedback from the community, with nearly 100 people in attendance. The project involves the development of a new bus rapid transit (BRT) line, set to enhance service on 82nd Avenue between Clackamas Town Center and the Cully neighborhood by 2029. Key features of the BRT line include traffic-light signal-prioritization for buses, near-level boarding platforms with dual door entry, and the removal of underutilized stops to improve travel times for the future FX-Frequent Express service. The plan also includes the allocation of outer lanes along 82nd Avenue for Business Access & Transit (BAT) use in collaboration with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT). The proposed bus stations on the 82nd Avenue route will offer shelters, seating, lighting, and digital displays to inform waiting passengers of bus arrival times, promising increased service frequency and reliability. Notably, TriMet has secured funding for a fleet of zero-emission hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses for this line, highlighting a commitment to reducing noise and pollution in the area. The public can continue to provide feedback on the project through an online version of the open house and a survey available until February 14th. Additionally, TriMet has initiated the 82nd Avenue Transit Project Community Advisory Committee (CAC) to engage with the public further. While applications for the CAC have closed, opportunities for involvement in shaping the BRT's development will continue. TriMet encourages community members to utilize the online survey as a direct channel to share feedback on this transformative transit project.
