Wrightbus, based in Ballymena, has secured a groundbreaking £500 million contract with the multi-national British transport operator Go-Ahead Group to manufacture over 1,000 mostly zero-emission buses in the next three years. This deal, the largest in Wrightbus' 78-year history, will safeguard 500 green jobs at the plant, create numerous training and up-skilling opportunities, and support an additional 1,500 jobs across the UK supply chain. The partnership aims to accelerate the transition to zero-emission fleets in the UK, contributing to environmental sustainability and supporting the growth of the country's supply chain. Go-Ahead Group's Chief Executive, Matt Carney, expressed pride in working with Wrightbus to deliver transformational environmental change while supporting UK jobs. Wrightbus Chief Executive, Jean-Marc Gales, emphasized the significance of the deal for the UK economy and the creation of a highly-skilled workforce. The collaboration also includes partnering with the Wright Technology & Research Centre at Queen’s University Belfast, dedicated to zero-emission bus research.
