Danish private rail company Lokaltog A/S has taken a significant step towards decarbonising its fleet in the Zealand region by signing a deal with Stadler for 14 battery-powered FLIRT Akku railcars. These trains are designed to operate on small lines that are challenging to electrify, providing hope for reducing carbon emissions in rural areas like Zealand. The FLIRT Akku trains can switch between electric and battery mode, offering a range of 80 kilometers and a maximum speed of 140 km/h, making them suitable for semi-electrified networks. The contract signed in Taastrup also includes an option for 10 additional vehicles to be used on specific lines in Denmark, with plans to extend services to more areas in the future.
