India is on the verge of a groundbreaking development in sustainable transportation with the upcoming launch of its first eco-friendly hydrogen-powered train by December 2024. Partnering with German company TUV-SUD for an audit, India aims to join the elite group of countries already utilizing hydrogen trains. The pilot runs are scheduled for the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana, with production ongoing at the Chennai Coach Factory. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav quashed privatization rumors, focusing on modernization and quality service provision. Each hydrogen train is estimated to cost ₹80 crores, with an additional ₹70 crores required for infrastructure per route. This initiative highlights India's dedication to embracing sustainable and innovative transportation solutions, promising a more environmentally conscious future.
