Indian Railways is set to embark on a groundbreaking initiative to introduce hydrogen-powered trains in India. The 'Hydrogen for Heritage' project plans to operate 35 hydrogen trains at the cost of Rs 80 crores per train and Rs 70 crores for ground infrastructure per route on various heritage and hill routes. The first trial for these eco-friendly trains is scheduled for December 2024. This landmark project will position India as the fifth country globally, alongside Germany, France, Sweden, and China, to run hydrogen trains, marking a significant leap in sustainable transportation.
