During the 18th Environment Partnership Summit in Kolkata, the Bengal state industry and commerce minister, Shashi Panja, announced the government's initiative to encourage the establishment of green hydrogen manufacturing units to advance the circular economy. Highlighting the existing green hydrogen policy unveiled during the previous Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) in 2023, Panja emphasized CM Mamata Banerjee's commitment to fostering a green industry in the state through attractive incentives for manufacturers. Panja articulated the state government's current focus on developing a circular economy, with an emphasis on green manufacturing practices in various sectors, particularly renewable energy. The government is actively seeking industry stakeholders to establish green hydrogen units within the state, aligning with its sustainability goals. Additionally, the Bengal government is preparing to launch a recycling unit dedicated to managing electronic waste, underscoring its holistic approach to environmental conservation and resource efficiency. Sanjay Budhia, the managing director of Patton, echoed the importance of a circular economy, stressing the need for cohesive policies, aligned incentives, and robust enforcement mechanisms to drive its rapid adoption and implementation.
