The European Commission has unveiled a funding package to support the deployment of clean hydrogen and renewable power in Namibia. Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson announced three agreements during her visit to Namibia and South Africa. The EU will contribute EUR 50 million to green hydrogen investment funds in Namibia and South Africa, focusing on private sector projects across the hydrogen value chain. Additionally, EUR 2.7 million will be provided by the EU and Germany to aid Namibia's Mines and Energy Ministry in energy planning and expanding renewable generation capacity. Furthermore, a grant of EUR 1.2 million from Germany and the Netherlands will support the Namibia Green Hydrogen Program, ensuring effective regulation of the green hydrogen sector. These investments are part of the EU's Global Gateway initiative, aiming to invest EUR 300 billion from 2021 to 2027 in various sectors. The partnership between the EU and Namibia includes mobilizing funds for infrastructure development, regulatory alignment, and creating an enabling environment for hydrogen and synthetic fuels industries. The EU emphasizes the importance of securing a sustainable supply of raw materials to achieve green and clean energy objectives.
