TotalEnergies, EREN Groupe, and VERBUND have partnered with the Republic of Tunisia to launch the H2 Notos project, a green hydrogen initiative aimed at exporting to Central Europe. The project will initially produce 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, potentially increasing to one million tons per year, contributing significantly to Europe's clean energy targets. By utilizing onshore wind and solar power along with desalinated sea water, the project plans to produce green hydrogen sustainably. It will access the European market through the SoutH2 Corridor pipeline project, connecting North Africa to Italy, Austria, and Germany by 2030. The development, financing, construction, and operation of the project will be led by the partnering companies, with VERBUND handling the hydrogen's transport to Central Europe. The stakeholders involved express optimism about the project's potential, emphasizing its role in fostering job creation in Tunisia and contributing to the country's energy transition. Tunisia's Minister of Industry highlights the project's importance in attracting foreign investment and advancing the nation's sustainable energy goals.
