Namibia and South Africa have initiated a groundbreaking project by signing a Memorandum of Understanding at the World Hydrogen Summit to explore the development of a cross-border green hydrogen pipeline in Southern Africa. Supported by key stakeholders like Wesgro, NCEDA, NGH2P, Gasunie Waterstof Holding B.V., and Climate Fund Managers (CFM) NL B.V., the agreement aims to establish a green hydrogen corridor. The project, with a significant budget, will delve into various dimensions including technical, commercial, financial, legal, environmental, socio-economic, and operational aspects. By connecting major green hydrogen hubs, the pipeline seeks to drive economic growth, generate jobs, and promote environmental sustainability. The first phase will focus on the segment between Lüderitz in Namibia and the Northern Cape in South Africa, with plans for future expansions. The successful realization of this initiative is expected to position Namibia as a strategic logistics hub and contribute to the sustainable development and industrialization of the region. The project represents a significant step towards a green and prosperous future in Africa.
