Vice-President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria revealed the government's intent to leverage the $130 billion global hydrogen market in collaboration with Germany for advancing the country's green energy sector. The partnership, discussed at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with a German delegation led by Hydrogen Commissioner Till Mansmann, aims to propel Nigeria towards its renewable energy objectives while contributing to the worldwide transition from fossil fuels to sustainable alternatives. Shettima highlighted the transformative potential of hydrogen, especially in industries like fertiliser production, and expressed optimism that Nigeria's success in this area could set a positive precedent for the entire African continent. Mansmann emphasized Nigeria's significance in the global energy transformation, stressing the need for cooperation with Nigerian institutions like the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to achieve common goals. The German envoy also underlined Germany's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2045, indicating a shift towards green energy imports and recognizing Africa, particularly Nigeria, as a key player in this transition. The discussions highlighted the crucial role of universities in fostering innovation and developing future talent for sustainable energy solutions, pointing towards a promising collaboration between Nigeria and Germany for mutual growth and environmental sustainability.
