Hong Kong's Towngas, the sole gas provider in the city, has partnered with Singapore's Global Energy Trading to develop a green methanol supply chain in Asia. This collaboration aims to support the energy transition needs of the region, particularly in the maritime industry. Towngas and Global Energy Trading plan to leverage their respective strengths in green methanol production and supply chain management to accelerate the decarbonisation process in the shipping sector. Towngas has been actively pursuing clean-burning fuels for aviation and marine industries to align with the target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The company's commitment to carbon neutrality involves transitioning to low-carbon fuels such as green naphtha, methane, methanol, and hydrogen. Towngas has set a goal to reduce the carbon intensity of its gas supply by 36% by 2035 compared to 2019 levels. This partnership signifies a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy practices and advancing the use of green fuels in the region's transportation sector.
