  • The forklifts will be used in a national demonstration project to verify the reliability and assess the economic and safety performance of hydrogen forklifts.
  • The shift to hydrogen forklifts is expected to save approximately 1.8T of carbon dioxide per day and about 645T annually, promoting eco-friendly mobility solutions.
  • The global hydrogen forklift market is projected to grow significantly, with HDX aiming to lead the transition to hydrogen mobility in industrial sites in Korea.
Hyundai subsidiary HDX, part of HD Hyundai XiteSolution, has secured an order for 22 hydrogen fuel cell forklifts with a 3.5T payload capacity from the Korea Construction Equipment Technology Institute. These forklifts will be utilized in the second phase of a national demonstration project focused on verifying the reliability and assessing the economic and safety performance of hydrogen forklifts until March 2026 at a smelter in Onsan. The project aims to lay the foundation for the commercialization of hydrogen forklifts, highlighting their eco-friendly nature by not emitting carbon dioxide during operation. Hydrogen forklifts are gaining traction as a sustainable mobility solution, with potential significant environmental benefits. In the U.S. and China, hydrogen forklifts have already been commercialized, with supporting systems and infrastructure in full development. California is particularly active in promoting eco-friendly forklifts, including both electric and hydrogen models. Market research indicates a promising future for the global hydrogen forklift market, with an expected substantial growth in value by 2032. HDX, through its industrial vehicles division, is keen on expanding its sales post-demonstration project and spearheading the transition to hydrogen mobility within industrial settings in Korea.
