LUPro from South Korea has entered into an agreement with Muscat Investment House in Oman to produce one million tonnes of green ammonia annually for export to Thailand and Southeast Asia. The facility, set to be located in Duqm, plans to commence ammonia exports to Thailand in 2027, with further expansion into other Southeast Asian markets. Initial production will utilize a 2GW power generation facility, with a target of five million tonnes over five years. Revenue projections suggest up to 6.5 trillion won over this period. LUPro intends to increase production capacity to over 2.5 million tonnes annually, expanding supply to markets in Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea. The project is highlighted as the 'world's first' to undertake a comprehensive cycle of green ammonia production, transportation, and sales. The economic feasibility of the venture is underpinned by significantly lower production costs in Oman compared to South Korea. Key stakeholders, such as LUPro Chairman Kim Se-ho and MA Corporation CEO Archirson Ma, emphasize the strategic significance of the project in the context of energy transition and carbon neutrality goals. While LUPro and Muscat House have ambitious expansion plans, securing land in Duqm for the project remains unconfirmed. The move aligns with growing global interest in green ammonia production, with recent investments by companies like bp further underlining the sector's potential.
