Pioneering Zero-Emission Hydrogen-Powered Flights at Formula 1 Speeds
Key Ideas
  • AMSL Aero partners with Conflux Technology to develop long-range, zero-emissions flights using hydrogen fuel cells for their electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, Vertiia.
  • The collaboration focuses on optimizing heat exchange technology to cool the hydrogen fuel cells, enabling Vertiia to achieve record-breaking distances at Formula 1 speeds.
  • Stralis Aircraft, Fabrum, and Ara Ake collaborate to design liquid-hydrogen storage tanks and a fuel system to advance hydrogen-powered aviation, aiming for Australasia's first liquid-hydrogen-powered flight.
  • The partnership between Australian and New Zealand companies, supported by Ara Ake, strengthens the region's expertise in hydrogen-powered flight and positions New Zealand as a testbed for sustainable aviation innovation.
AMSL Aero has partnered with Conflux Technology to develop long-range, zero-emissions flights using hydrogen fuel cells to power their electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Vertiia. By utilizing Conflux Technology's advanced heat transfer innovation to cool the hydrogen fuel cells, Vertiia aims to achieve distances of up to 1,000 kilometers at speeds of 300 km/h, making it the world's first long-range passenger-capable hydrogen VTOL. This collaboration marks a significant step towards sustainable aviation solutions, with both companies emphasizing the importance of thermal management for the performance of hydrogen fuel cells. In a separate initiative, Stralis Aircraft, Fabrum, and Ara Ake are working together to design, develop, and test liquid-hydrogen storage tanks and a fuel system for Stralis aircraft, with the goal of enabling Australasia's first liquid-hydrogen-powered flight. Stralis Aircraft, known for its high-performance hydrogen-electric propulsion systems, will integrate Fabrum's tanks and fuel system into its aircraft, supported by New Zealand's Ara Ake. This collaboration not only advances hydrogen-powered aviation but also strengthens industry ties between Australia and New Zealand, contributing to the region's expertise in sustainable aviation solutions. Both projects aim to push the boundaries of zero-emissions aviation by optimizing technology, reducing weight, and increasing efficiency in the use of hydrogen fuel cells. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, these partnerships represent a significant leap towards a cleaner and greener future for the aviation industry.
