Sembcorp Green Hydrogen, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, has joined hands with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) to facilitate the export of green ammonia to Japan. The collaboration, which also includes Kyushu Electric Power and Sojitz Corporation, aims to establish a robust supply chain for green ammonia from India to Japan, particularly in the Kyushu region. Under the agreement, NYK will be responsible for the maritime transportation of the green ammonia. Sembcorp, as the lead developer, will produce competitively-priced green ammonia in India, leveraging its existing renewable energy portfolio in the country. The project's initial phases, including the front-end engineering and design work for the green ammonia plant in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, have already commenced. This development follows a series of agreements and milestones, including a heads of terms signed in June and a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2023. Despite the positive momentum and partnerships established, the signing is not expected to have a significant financial impact on Sembcorp in the current fiscal year. The project signifies a step forward in the green energy sector, showcasing the potential for sustainable energy solutions and cross-border partnerships.
