Singapore is making strides in its sustainable energy transition by investing in hydrogen-powered plants to reduce carbon emissions. Keppel Ltd. and PacificLight Power Pte Ltd. are at the forefront of developing gas turbine projects compatible with hydrogen, in line with the government's mandate for new power plants to be hydrogen-compatible. Keppel recently installed Singapore's first hydrogen-compatible co-generation power plant, aiming to be the most energy-efficient in the country. Similarly, PacificLight has been awarded the rights to build a hydrogen-ready combined cycle gas turbine facility. The plants are projected to have a significant impact on reducing carbon dioxide emissions, with expected reductions in the range of millions of tonnes over their operational lifespan. Singapore's carbon tax is set to rise, but companies like PacificLight are committed to passing on their savings to consumers.
