VINSSEN Co., Ltd, a company specializing in maritime decarbonization technologies, recently marked a significant milestone by commencing the hull construction of a 17.4m leisure boat powered by hydrogen fuel cells and high-voltage batteries. The launch ceremony held on October 8 signified the beginning of this innovative project to develop an integrated propulsion system for eco-friendly maritime transportation. The leisure boat, designed to accommodate up to 10 passengers and with a top speed of 20 knots, is set to revolutionize leisure boating in South Korea as the first of its kind in the country. This endeavor is part of a larger R&D project titled “Demonstration of the Charging and Operation of a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powered Boat,” which has received approval and support from various organizations including Jeonnam Technopark, Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute, and Korea Institute of Industrial Technology. The project aims to showcase the feasibility and benefits of utilizing hydrogen fuel cells in marine vessels, contributing to the overall goal of achieving carbon neutrality and enhancing the maritime environment in Korea. With plans to construct more hydrogen fuel cell leisure boats and establish necessary infrastructure such as a hydrogen charging station in Yeongam-gun, VINSSEN is leading the way in promoting sustainable maritime solutions. The CEO of VINSSEN, Chil Han LEE, emphasized the importance of such projects in advancing eco-friendly technologies for the maritime sector and expressed commitment to driving the adoption of hydrogen power for a cleaner and more sustainable future in Korea and beyond.
