Spain’s Enagás and France’s GRTgaz, alongside Teréga and OGE, have finalized an agreement to develop the 2.5 billion euro BarMar project, a subsea pipeline connecting Barcelona to Marseille. This project is a crucial component of the H2MED initiative, seeking to integrate hydrogen networks across the Iberian Peninsula, France, and Germany to support the transition to a low-carbon economy. The ownership structure of the project company reflects proportional contributions from Enagás, GRTgaz, and Teréga in the Spanish and French pipeline segments. Feasibility studies will assess technical, environmental, and economic aspects essential for the final investment decision, addressing the growing demand for hydrogen in industrial regions. The partnership with the Portuguese gas network operator REN aims to enhance hydrogen network connections between Portugal and Spain through the CelZa interconnection project. The collaboration with OGE emphasizes the significance of transnational cooperation in the H2MED initiative, leveraging expertise and networks in Germany for integrating hydrogen markets in Europe.
