- The project focuses on developing accelerated ageing procedures to meet ambitious expansion targets for electrolysers in Germany, Europe, and globally, highlighting the importance of quality control and technology transfer.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour, and Tourism Baden-Württemberg is investing approximately €7.6 million over three years in a project under the "Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform" (STEP) to enhance electrolysis technology. Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, the Minister of Economic Affairs, highlighted the significance of the ElyLab center in Stuttgart, which provides testing facilities for electrolysis stack designs up to the multi-megawatt scale. The approved funding will be utilized to expand the infrastructure by 400 square meters to accommodate new test rigs and enhance testing capacity. The project aims to support companies in developing electrolysis products, emphasizing water electrolysis as a crucial technology for the green hydrogen market. Dr. Marc-Simon Löffler of ZSW mentioned that the expansion will almost double the testing capacity and help meet the rising demand. Additionally, the project will focus on developing accelerated ageing procedures to enable faster development cycles and quality control, essential for achieving expansion targets and international competitiveness in the electrolysis sector.
