BP and Iberdrola have initiated the construction of Spain's largest green hydrogen plant, a significant development in the country's renewable energy sector. The 25MW plant, located near the BP refinery in Castellón, could potentially create 500 employment opportunities during its construction phase. Around 25 Spanish companies are expected to be involved in the construction process, highlighting the collaborative efforts within the Spanish industry. The project's initial stages involve earthworks and land preparation, with civil work set to commence in the coming months. One of the key milestones will be the installation of essential equipment like electrolysers, planned for the latter half of 2025. These electrolysers will facilitate the production of green hydrogen through electrolysis, a process that separates hydrogen and oxygen molecules from water using renewable electricity. This initiative underscores a shift towards sustainable energy practices and signifies a positive step towards leveraging renewable resources for hydrogen production in Spain.
