The European Investment Bank (EIB) is financing Galp's transformative projects in Sines, Portugal, with a €430 million loan to support the construction of a Biofuels unit and a renewable Hydrogen production unit at the Sines Refinery. The Biofuels unit, receiving €250 million, will focus on producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel from vegetable oils and residual fats, aiding in the decarbonization of heavy-duty road transport and aviation. This unit is essential for meeting European Union mandates on sustainable aviation fuels and reducing global greenhouse gas emissions from air transportation. The €180 million investment in the renewable Hydrogen production unit will enable the production of up to 15,000 tons of renewable hydrogen per year, contributing to Europe's energy independence.
