Klaipėda Port Authority in Lithuania is making significant strides towards becoming a leading hub for green energy and sustainable maritime operations. With a vision focused on innovation and environmental responsibility, the port plans to invest EUR 308 million in developing modern infrastructure, maritime business, and sustainability solutions over the next four years. The ambitious plans include the development of new infrastructure for offshore wind energy projects, with the aim of making Klaipėda Port the most advanced maritime transport hub in the region. Additionally, the port is set to embark on projects for cruise shipping infrastructure development and the construction of a new 100-hectare area in the southern part of the port. Sustainable practices are at the forefront, with initiatives such as electrifying ferries to reduce pollution and noise, and the development of green hydrogen production at the port. Plans include producing around 500 kilograms of green hydrogen per day for various vehicles, including ships, railways, and land road vehicles. The port's commitment to sustainability extends to promoting inland waterway transport, with investments planned for the development of Jurbarkas Port. These endeavors underscore Klaipėda Port's strategic direction to enhance its competitive position in the Baltic Sea region while prioritizing environmental protection and sustainable growth.
