European Commission Offers EUR 600 Million Funding for Energy Infrastructure Projects
Key Ideas
- European Commission accepting proposals for EUR 600 million funding for Energy projects in the EU.
- Funds allocated for connecting power, low-carbon gas, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide infrastructure under the TEN-E Regulation.
- Projects in the Baltic, Central Eastern, Southeastern, and Western Europe to receive funding for power interconnections, offshore grids, hydrogen networks, and carbon capture/storage.
- Significant grants for hydrogen infrastructure development to support decarbonization efforts in 15 European countries.
The European Commission has announced a new round of funding under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy, offering EUR 600 million for energy infrastructure projects. This funding is designated for projects listed as Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs) under the Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E) Regulation. The projects include power interconnections, offshore grids, hydrogen production and distribution networks, and carbon capture and storage networks across various regions of Europe. Developers have until September 16 to submit proposals, with results expected in early next year.
EU Energy and Housing Commissioner Dan Jørgensen highlighted the importance of these investments in building a genuine Energy Union to enhance competitiveness, energy security, and reduce energy costs. The previous call awarded nearly EUR 1.25 billion to 41 projects, primarily in the study stage. Notably, grants for hydrogen infrastructure development will support 21 projects in 15 European countries as part of efforts to decarbonize EU industry. This funding initiative aims to propel the transition towards cleaner energy sources and enhance sustainability in the European energy sector.
