By using locally produced hydrogen in their fuel cells, the trains significantly reduce CO2 emissions, with water vapor as the only by-product. The initiative in Berlin-Brandenburg alone will save 1.1 million liters of diesel annually and cut emissions by 3,000 tons. In Bavaria, the Mireo Plus H, also known as 'Freistaat Bayern,' will operate on selected routes with a top speed of 99mph and an operating range of 745 miles, providing an environmentally friendly option for regional railways.
