Metrans, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), has initiated trials for Slovakia's first hydrogen-powered truck in partnership with Mobility & Innovation Production s.r.o (MIP). The project, announced at the Slovakia Ring, involves incorporating the innovative vehicle into Metrans' fleet to enhance climate-neutral container transport. The truck, constructed on Ford F-Max platform with Ford's support, boasts a 117 kW REFIRE fuel cell and Dana Sumo motor, coupled with a 48-kilogram hydrogen tank offering a range exceeding 600 kilometers. Notably, the truck will be exclusively refuelled with hydrogen sourced from renewable energy sources during the trial period. Peter Kiss, the CEO of the Metrans Group, expressed enthusiasm about testing MIP's hydrogen-powered truck for container transports, highlighting its role in providing climate-friendly transport solutions. Metrans has been on a sustainability journey by incorporating e-trucks, energy-efficient electric and hybrid locomotives, and electric container gantry cranes into its fleet since 2022. The introduction of the hydrogen-powered truck further underscores Metrans' commitment to sustainable transport practices, aligning with the Clean Port & Logistics Cluster's exploration of hydrogen-powered equipment in port logistics.
