On July 29, the European Commission granted approval for a €998 million state aid scheme proposed by the Netherlands to bolster the production of renewable hydrogen. This financial support, permitted under EU State aid rules, is a significant step towards achieving the goals set out in the EU Hydrogen Strategy and the European Green Deal. The primary aim of this initiative is to foster the development of renewable hydrogen, a key component in the transition to cleaner energy sources. The funds will specifically be allocated towards building a minimum of 200 MW of electrolysis capacity, a vital technology for generating renewable hydrogen.
