Power2X and Worley Join Forces for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project in Rotterdam
Key Ideas
- Power2X partners with Worley for the eFuels Rotterdam project, a major sustainable aviation fuel production facility using green hydrogen.
- The facility aims to produce over 250,000 tonnes/year of e-SAF, significantly reducing CO2 emissions and contributing to Europe's energy transition.
- Worley will provide engineering services to ensure project success, emphasizing the importance of collaboration for efficient and low-carbon project development.
- The eFuels Rotterdam hub is set to become a key player in Europe's aviation decarbonization efforts, meeting regulatory SAF requirements and driving impactful progress.
Power2X, a leading green molecules company, has awarded Worley, a global professional services company, a contract for its eFuels Rotterdam project. The project involves the construction of a world-scale production facility for sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) and ultra-low carbon fuels in Rotterdam. The production facility will utilize green methanol produced from green hydrogen and biogenic carbon as feedstock to produce over 250,000 tonnes/year of e-SAF, a non-fossil, synthetic fuel. Worley will provide engineering services to support the project's design phases, ensuring technical and commercial risks are mitigated and project schedules are well defined. The e-SAF produced at the facility will play a crucial role in reducing CO2 emissions, with a 90% cut compared to conventional jet fuel. The eFuels Rotterdam hub is expected to contribute significantly to Europe's energy transition, meeting 40% of the required e-SAF volume in Europe and aiding in the decarbonization of the aviation industry. Power2X and Worley emphasize the importance of collaboration and partnership to achieve a sustainable and efficient project development, ultimately leading to a positive financial investment decision and supporting the decarbonization goals of the aviation industry.
