Jean-Louis Pech, President of the French Federation of Vehicle Equipment Industries (FIEV), has raised concerns over the European automotive industry's precarious state and called for genuine technological neutrality to combat its decline. The sector in France has suffered a drastic reduction in vehicle production, prompting FIEV to push for measures to enhance industry competitiveness and protect domestic production. Amid the shift towards electrification, subcontractors are feeling the strain of decreased electric vehicle sales and rising costs. FIEV's proposal includes advocating for higher European content, support to tackle energy costs, tax reductions, and simplified regulations. While endorsing the promotion of electric vehicles, the federation stresses the importance of embracing a variety of low-carbon powertrains, such as plug-in hybrids, range extenders, and fuel-efficient options like e-fuels, second-generation biofuels, and hydrogen.
