SEFE and ACWA Power's Partnership for Green Hydrogen Supply to Europe
Key Ideas
- SEFE and ACWA Power will establish a hydrogen bridge between Saudi Arabia and Germany, aiming to supply 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030.
- ACWA Power to lead green hydrogen and ammonia production, with SEFE as co-investor and primary offtaker for the European market.
- SEFE is developing hydrogen transport and storage infrastructure in Germany and collaborating with other companies for international hydrogen supply chains.
- ACWA Power is progressing on green hydrogen projects in NEOM, Uzbekistan, and planning to export green hydrogen to Europe via the SoutH2 Corridor.
Germany’s Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to produce and supply green hydrogen to Europe. The partnership aims to establish a hydrogen bridge between Saudi Arabia and Germany, targeting the supply of 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030. ACWA Power will lead the development, investment, and operation of green hydrogen and ammonia production assets, while SEFE will be a co-investor and the primary offtaker, focusing on marketing hydrogen to German and European customers. SEFE is also working on developing hydrogen transport and storage infrastructure in Germany, with projects such as converting pipeline networks and building new offshore pipelines. Additionally, SEFE has entered agreements with companies like Höegh Evi, Eletrobras, and EnerTech to develop international supply chains for clean hydrogen. On the other hand, ACWA Power is progressing with green hydrogen projects in NEOM and Uzbekistan, with plans to export green hydrogen to Europe. The company is also involved in collaborations for green hydrogen projects in countries like Tunisia and Egypt. Both companies are dedicated to contributing to the global decarbonisation efforts and ushering in the era of green hydrogen in Europe and beyond.
