TotalEnergies has announced a significant step towards decarbonization by partnering with RWE to supply 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to the German Leuna refinery. The green hydrogen will be produced by a 300 MW electrolyser in Lingen, operated by RWE, and transported via a 600 km pipeline to the refinery, resulting in a reduction of 300,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually starting in 2030. This deal represents the largest quantity of green hydrogen ever contracted from an electrolyser in Germany. Patrick Pouyanné, TotalEnergies' Chairman and CEO, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting the impact on reducing CO2 emissions at the Leuna refinery. The CEO of RWE, Markus Krebber, also shared his pride in securing this significant long-term agreement, emphasizing the success of hydrogen with the right incentives.
