TotalEnergies has signed a groundbreaking agreement with the German developer RWE to supply 30,000 tons of green hydrogen annually to the Leuna refinery in Germany, starting in 2030. The green hydrogen production will be facilitated by a 300 MW electrolyzer in Lingen, operated by RWE, with local storage and delivery through a 600 km pipeline, aiming to prevent 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions at the Leuna refinery each year. This partnership represents the largest green hydrogen contract with an electrolyzer in Germany, signaling a significant step towards decarbonization. TotalEnergies, led by its Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné, is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint by using low-carbon hydrogen in its European refineries. The company has already secured contracts for over 200,000 tons of green and renewable hydrogen annually across various sites in France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The collaboration with RWE marks a milestone in TotalEnergies' efforts to meet its 2030 target of cutting annual CO2 emissions by approximately three million tons through sustainable energy practices.
