AM Green Partners with John Cockerill for India's Largest Electrolyser Order
Key Ideas
- AM Green places India's largest electrolyser order with John Cockerill for 1.3GW of advanced pressurized alkaline electrolysers for a green ammonia facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
- The order includes two phases of 640MW electrolysers each for green hydrogen production and conversion into green ammonia, with the plant scheduled to start production in the second half of 2026.
- AM Green aims to achieve a 5 MTPA green ammonia capacity by 2030, contributing significantly to India's and Europe's green hydrogen production targets.
- The strategic partnership between AM Green and John Cockerill signifies a milestone in creating a robust green hydrogen ecosystem in India, positioning the country as a leading export hub for green molecules.
AM Green, a part of Hyderabad-based Greenko Group, has placed a significant order with John Cockerill Hydrogen for 1.3GW of electrolysis equipment, making it India's largest electrolyser order. This order is intended for AM Green's green ammonia facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The electrolysers will be supplied in two phases to facilitate the production of green hydrogen, which will then be converted into green ammonia. The plant is expected to commence operations in the latter half of 2026. This initiative aligns with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, with AM Green aiming to achieve a 5 MTPA green ammonia capacity by 2030. The partnership between AM Green and John Cockerill also involves establishing India's largest electrolyser manufacturing plant in Kakinada with a 2 GW per year capacity. These efforts will significantly contribute to India's green hydrogen production targets. The collaboration is set to not only advance India's green hydrogen goals but also facilitate the global decarbonisation of industries like refining, shipping, fertilisers, power generation, and chemicals. It is highlighted that the Kakinada facility has already received certification for compliance with EU RFNBO requirements for green ammonia. The CEOs of AM Green and John Cockerill expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing the role of advanced electrolysis technology and renewable energy solutions in driving the adoption of green hydrogen and its derivatives in the region and beyond.
