The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is undertaking significant expansion plans to develop advanced testing labs and infrastructure by 2025. Dr. Reji Mathai, the director of ARAI, announced that the organization will have operational facilities for battery safety testing, hydrogen testing, and an ADAS smart city test track in Takwe. With a capital expenditure of INR 100 crore, ARAI is finalizing testing facilities at its new Mobility Research Centre in Takwe, with plans for cylinder test facilities, certification centres, and a high energy impact test facility. ARAI is also diversifying its testing applications to industries beyond automotive, including rail, aerospace, and mining. The organization is focusing on enhancing safety, avoiding reckless driving, and promoting intelligent vehicle technology. Its initiatives include R&D projects on electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and engine development. ARAI is keen on building a stronger EV ecosystem and expanding component manufacturing. The establishment of an Alternate Fuel Centre showcases ARAI's commitment to exploring alternative fuels like methanol, hydrogen, and bio-CNG. Discussions are ongoing regarding ARAI's plans to expand facilities in Pune's Vetal Tekdi, highlighting the organization's dedication to environmental preservation and the development of EV competencies.
