Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Sembcorp, backed by Temasek, have established a joint venture to delve into renewable energy and green hydrogen initiatives in India. This partnership signifies a significant stride towards India's climate goals. The focus of the collaboration will extend to green ammonia production, bunkering solutions, and emissions mitigation in port operations, alongside exploring other emerging green fuel technologies. G Krishnakumar, BPCL's Chairman and Managing Director, highlighted the partnership's importance as a pivotal achievement in BPCL's sustainability journey. He reiterated BPCL's dedication to achieving net-zero energy status by 2040, targeting Scope 1 and 2 emissions and developing a 10 GW renewable energy portfolio to propel the transition. The partnership emphasizes a commitment to innovation-driven, top-notch solutions in the green energy sector. Sembcorp, currently overseeing six GW of renewable assets in India, views green hydrogen and green ammonia as essential decarbonisation pathways. This alliance aligns with India's overarching national objectives concerning clean energy and sustainability, with both BPCL and Sembcorp pooling their strengths to spearhead renewable and hydrogen-based solutions.
