GAIL (India) and Cummins' Accelera Join Forces for Clean Energy Innovation in India
Key Ideas
- GAIL (India) and Accelera by Cummins signed an MoU to collaborate on clean energy and energy transition technologies in India, focusing on hydrogen production, blending, transportation, and storage.
- GAIL's revised 'net zero' target for 2035 aligns with this partnership, leveraging Accelera's expertise in new energy solutions and GAIL's natural gas infrastructure.
- GAIL has already commissioned a 10 MW Green Hydrogen unit and operates a CBG plant, with plans for 26 more across India. Collaborations include setting up CBG plants, synthetic natural gas production, and an ethanol plant.
- Cummins Inc.'s portfolio includes technologies essential for India's energy transition, such as advanced powertrains, electric systems, batteries, fuel cells, and hydrogen production technologies.
GAIL (India) and Accelera by Cummins have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on clean energy and energy transition technologies in India. The partnership, formalized during India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi, aims to leverage Accelera's expertise in new energy solutions and GAIL's natural gas infrastructure to explore green energy opportunities, including hydrogen production, blending, transportation, and storage. This collaboration aligns with GAIL's revised 'net zero' target, now set for 2035, five years earlier than its previous goal. Cummins Inc.'s portfolio, which includes advanced powertrains, electric and hybrid systems, batteries, fuel cells, and hydrogen production technologies, plays a crucial role in driving India's energy transition.
In April 2024, GAIL commissioned a 10 MW Green Hydrogen unit at its Vijaipur plant in Madhya Pradesh, using an electrolyser supplied by Accelera. Additionally, GAIL operates a five TPD compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Ranchi and plans to establish 26 more CBG plants across India over the next three to four years, in partnership with various entities like Leafiniti Bioenergy. GAIL is also collaborating with Coal India for synthetic natural gas production in West Bengal and has entered a joint venture to construct a 1G, 500 KLPD grain-based ethanol plant in Rajasthan. The initiatives and partnerships underscore GAIL's commitment to clean energy and sustainability in India's energy landscape.
