Germany's Bosch Makes Strategic Move Towards Hydrogen Economy
Key Ideas
  • Germany is aiming to expand its reliance on hydrogen to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in industries like steel and chemicals that cannot be electrified.
  • Bosch, a leading company in mobility, is investing in hydrogen technology, expecting it to be a significant revenue source by 2030.
  • Bosch will produce electrolyser components for hydrogen production, with plans to generate billions of euros in revenue from its hydrogen business.
  • The company will manufacture Hybrion PEM electrolysis stacks in Bamberg, showcasing its commitment to advancing hydrogen technology.
Germany is pushing for an increased utilization of hydrogen as an energy source to address emissions from industrial sectors that are challenging to electrify, such as steel and chemicals. Bosch, a prominent player in mobility solutions, has announced its strategic focus on hydrogen, anticipating substantial revenue growth in this sector by 2030. The company aims to produce electrolyser components for hydrogen generation, leveraging its expertise to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Bosch plans to introduce Hybrion PEM electrolysis stacks, developed in collaboration with FEST, at the Hanover industry fair. These stacks, with a 2.5-megawatt output, will be initially manufactured in Bamberg before broader sales commence in April. Markus Heyn, Bosch Mobility's chairman, highlighted hydrogen as a key growth area for the company, signaling a significant commitment to hydrogen technology. The company has already secured orders for around 100 megawatts, indicating a strong market demand for hydrogen solutions. By focusing on hydrogen, Germany and Bosch are aligning with the global transition towards sustainable energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
