The Gujarat government has approved nearly 1.99 lakh hectares of land to establish a renewable energy park dedicated to green hydrogen production. Governor Acharya Devvrat emphasized Gujarat's goal to become India’s green hydrogen hub, with a target of producing 30 lakh tonnes annually. The state has introduced a land lease policy to encourage green hydrogen projects utilizing solar, wind, and hybrid energy sources. During the 2024 Vibrant Gujarat Summit, MoUs worth over Rs three lakh crore were signed to advance green hydrogen initiatives. To meet production demands, Gujarat aims to acquire around 100 GW of renewable energy. Plans also include strengthening the inter-state transmission system (ISTS) and the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) network. Furthermore, the state is in the process of developing new renewable energy parks with a total capacity of 37,000 MW. Currently leading in electricity generation in India, Gujarat boasts an installed capacity of 57,664 MW, out of which 31,483 MW is derived from renewable sources. This initiative signifies a significant step towards a more sustainable and greener energy future for the state.
