Himachal Pradesh took a significant step towards green energy by initiating the establishment of a 1MW green hydrogen plant in Dabhota, Solan district. The project, a collaboration between Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) and Oil India Limited, aims to set up the first large-scale green hydrogen initiative in north India. With a total cost of Rs 9.04 crore, the plant is scheduled for completion within a year as directed by the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The plant, utilizing renewable sources for power, will produce green hydrogen through electrolysis, employing an alkaline potassium hydroxide solution. This method is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a cleaner energy ecosystem. The plant's production capacity of 423 kg of green hydrogen per day is anticipated to require 13 litres of water per kg of hydrogen, sourced from underground reserves. Additionally, the plant is estimated to generate 1,54,395 kg of green hydrogen annually. The project underlines the state government's broader commitment to renewable energy and sustainability, further exemplified by its progress towards achieving a 500 MW solar energy target. The initiative not only showcases Himachal Pradesh's dedication to becoming a leader in green energy but also signifies a crucial milestone in the state's journey towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape.
