Honeywell and AM Green have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on advancing carbon capture and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in India. India has set targets to achieve a 1% SAF blend in jet fuel for international flights by 2027, increasing to 2% by 2028 as part of its goal to reach net zero by 2070. The collaboration aims to find efficient ways to decarbonise the aviation and shipping sectors, positioning India as a global leader in alternative fuel production. The focus of the collaboration is on assessing the feasibility of producing sustainable aviation fuel from ethanol, green methanol, and green hydrogen. This partnership aligns with Honeywell's portfolio goals related to energy transition. They will work on enhancing India's energy security and promoting the country as a competitive exporter of green methanol. The collaboration also targets helping airlines meet mandates for low-carbon fuel replacements. In addition to environmental benefits, the collaboration aims to support Indian farmers by creating demand for ethanol feedstocks. It also aligns with the government's National Green Hydrogen Mission to increase green hydrogen production. The feasibility study is expected to conclude by mid-2025, representing a significant step towards achieving large-scale decarbonisation. Honeywell India's president, Ashish Modi, expressed confidence in advancing India's low-carbon economy and becoming a global leader in alternative fuel innovation through this partnership.
