The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has announced an enhancement in the allocation for the fertilizer sector under the SIGHT Programme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). The allocation for the fertilizer sector has been increased from 5.5 lakh tonnes per annum to 7.5 lakh tonnes per annum of Green Ammonia. The NGHM, with a target to achieve a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum of Green Hydrogen by 2030, aims to promote clean energy and contribute to India's self-reliance goals. The increase in allocation for the fertilizer sector comes as a response to the rising demand for Green Ammonia from various sectors. This step is seen as crucial in boosting the demand for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives in the country. The Mission, launched in January 2023 with substantial funding, is expected to drive significant decarbonization of the economy, decrease reliance on fossil fuel imports, and position India as a frontrunner in Green Hydrogen technology and market. The amendment to the Scheme Guidelines reflects the success and progress of the Mission in creating a sustainable and green energy ecosystem in India.
