The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has invited proposals for setting up Centres of Excellence (CoEs) under the Research and Development (R&D) Scheme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The objective of this initiative is to establish world-class CoEs for Green Hydrogen to drive innovation, sustainability, and energy independence in India in the long term. These CoEs will focus on advancing Green Hydrogen production, storage, and utilization technologies, thereby accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. They will serve as hubs for cutting-edge research, skill development, and knowledge dissemination, fostering collaboration among industry, academia, and government to drive innovations in Green Hydrogen technologies. The MNRE had previously released guidelines for the R&D Scheme, and it is expected that public and private entities will collaborate to submit proposals under the newly issued call for proposals. The Government has earmarked Rs 100 crores for the establishment of these centers, which align with the broader goals of the National Green Hydrogen Mission launched in 2023. The Mission, with a substantial budget, aims to make India self-reliant in clean energy and position the country as a leader in Green Hydrogen technology globally. It is envisioned that the Mission will lead to significant decarbonization of the economy, reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports, and propel India towards technology and market leadership in the Green Hydrogen sector.
