Tarun Sawhney, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of TEIL, shared expectations for India's budget 2025, focusing on boosting the Minimum Selling Price (MSP) for sugar to Rs 39.14 per kg. This increase is aimed at strengthening the financial position of sugar mills and improving farmer incomes. India's ethanol development strategy includes targets for achieving E20 blending by 2025 and expanding ethanol production capacity to 1,700 crore liters. The government plans to provide Rs 35,000 crore in targeted financial support to facilitate these goals. Anticipated rise in ethanol prices by Rs 4-5 per litre in the upcoming years is expected to incentivize producers and distilleries to increase output. A formula-based link between sugarcane Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) and ethanol prices is proposed to ensure stability in the value chain. The government also aims to promote the adoption of flex-fuel vehicles and enhance infrastructure for dispensing various ethanol-blended fuels to bolster their presence in the market. Moreover, significant investments are directed towards research in 2G ethanol, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) products, and ethanol-to-hydrogen conversion technology, showcasing India's efforts towards biofuel innovation and sustainability.
