India is taking significant steps towards promoting clean mobility by developing a comprehensive roadmap for establishing hydrogen-dispensing infrastructure across the country. The initiative aims to encourage the use of hydrogen as a clean fuel for transportation, addressing the current lack of hydrogen filling stations. A specialised steering committee involving officials from key ministries and the government's Principal Scientific Adviser will meet to draft recommendations and an action plan for creating hydrogen corridors and promoting domestic hydrogen storage. The plan includes determining the appropriate storage pressure for hydrogen to ensure efficiency and safety. The government plans to develop hydrogen corridors for both freight and passenger buses, with leading companies like Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland actively researching and developing hydrogen-powered vehicles. India aims to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 under the national green hydrogen mission. Challenges such as high upfront costs and regulatory permissions for setting up high-pressure dispensing stations will be addressed in the roadmap. The successful implementation of this initiative is expected to enhance environmental sustainability, reduce dependency on imports, and strengthen India's position in the global clean energy market.
