Kandla Port in Gujarat to Launch First Green Hydrogen Plant in India
Key Ideas
- Kandla port in Gujarat is pioneering the establishment of the first operational Green Hydrogen plant in India using indigenous Electrolysers.
- The 1-Megawatt electrolyser manufactured by L&T will be scaled up to a capacity of 10 MW to produce 18 kg of Green Hydrogen per hour.
- The Green Hydrogen plant is set to be fully operational by July 2025, aiming to produce approximately 80-90 tonnes of Green Hydrogen per year for clean energy generation through Fuel Cells.
- Deendayal Port Authority also plans to incorporate Green Ammonia production modules into the plant, enhancing their eco-friendly power solutions.
Kandla port in Gujarat is on track to make history by being the first port in India to house an operational Green Hydrogen plant within its premises. The Shipping Ministry revealed its plans to commence green hydrogen production in the latter half of 2025. The project, equipped with a 1-Megawatt electrolyser initially, is designed to escalate to a 10 MW capacity. The Green Hydrogen Plant is slated to be fully operational by July 2025, with the capability to produce 18 kg of Green Hydrogen per hour, totaling around 80-90 tonnes annually. This sustainable initiative aims to fuel clean energy through Fuel Cells, establishing self-sustaining and environmentally friendly power solutions at the port. Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla also envisions integrating Green Ammonia production within the same facility, further bolstering their eco-friendly energy endeavors.
