Kerala has been awarded Rs 34.84 crore funding for a green hydrogen pilot project in the transport sector, with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy providing substantial support. The project, estimated at Rs 40 crores, is set to demonstrate the feasibility and scalability of hydrogen technology in transportation by introducing hydrogen-powered vehicles and establishing refuelling stations. The funding structure includes 90% support through viability gap funding under the Green Hydrogen Pilot Scheme. ANERT, the nodal agency, will oversee the execution of the project, which involves deploying trucks for transport and setting up refuelling stations in strategic locations like Trivandrum and Kochi. Key partners such as Ashok Leyland, BPCL, Greenstat India, and KSRTC are crucial for the successful implementation within the stipulated 24-month timeline. This initiative mirrors the broader National Green Hydrogen Mission's objectives, showcasing a collaborative effort between state and central government entities to drive green technology adoption in the transport sector.
