In a groundbreaking move towards achieving Kerala's net-zero ambitions, EKA Mobility, supported by Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and VDL Groep, has teamed up with KPIT Technologies and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to introduce a state-of-the-art 9-meter Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus at Cochin International Airport (CIAL) in Kochi. This pioneering initiative represents a significant development in India's clean mobility landscape and sets the stage for the widespread integration of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles. The hydrogen fuel cell bus, capable of accommodating over 30 passengers, will undergo a three-year Proof of Concept (PoC) project at CIAL and was showcased at the Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit in Kochi. By incorporating KPIT's hydrogen fuel cell technology into the electric bus and establishing hydrogen infrastructure in Kochi, the collaborative effort aims to propel the country towards embracing zero-emission, sustainable mobility solutions. Beyond just deploying the bus, the partnership focuses on creating a comprehensive hydrogen mobility infrastructure, positioning Kerala as a model state for promoting green hydrogen adoption. This project is expected to fast-track the adoption of hydrogen-fueled commercial vehicles in India, attracting investments in green hydrogen infrastructure and shaping policies for broader implementation. By expanding clean energy solutions, it solidifies Kerala's stance in sustainable mobility and contributes to India's pursuit of achieving net-zero emissions.
