The National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) is preparing to launch its 3rd TechTrial Run on World EV Day, covering a 332 km route from Chennai to Trichy. This trial will incorporate Electric, Hydrogen, and Zero Emission Freight vehicles along with previously tested electric SUVs and buses. The aim is to gather data on the logistical aspect of freight and deployment of green vehicles on a 5500 km e-highway. The trial will evaluate cost efficiency, total ownership costs, breakeven periods, and infrastructure costs to support the transition to Zero Emission Transportation. The collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government and significant investment will pave the way for deploying green vehicles and establishing renewable charging infrastructure in multiple states. The NHEV program operates on a Hybrid Public-Private Partnership model and is expanding to cover 5,500 km of E-Highways, aligning with national electrification guidelines. Overall, the initiative signals a positive step towards promoting green transportation and reducing carbon emissions in India.
