NTPC, a state-run company, has recently entered into a Power Purchase Agreement with the Indian Army for a unique project in Ladakh. The agreement involves the sale of 200 kW RE-RTC power from a solar-hydrogen-based Microgrid located in Chushul. This initiative aims to provide the Indian Army with a sustainable solution by replacing diesel gensets with a hydrogen-based off-grid microgrid. By doing so, the project will help in avoiding the logistics of fossil fuel transportation and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1500 tons annually. The microgrid, situated at a challenging altitude of 4,400 meters where temperatures drop to -30 degrees Celsius in winter, signifies a remarkable technological advancement in the region.
