NTPC, a state-run company, has recently entered into a Power Purchase Agreement with the Indian Army for a unique project in Ladakh. The agreement involves the sale of 200 kW RE-RTC power from a solar-hydrogen-based Microgrid located in Chushul. This initiative aims to provide the Indian Army with a sustainable solution by replacing diesel gensets with a hydrogen-based off-grid microgrid. By doing so, the project will help in avoiding the logistics of fossil fuel transportation and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1500 tons annually. The microgrid, situated at a challenging altitude of 4,400 meters where temperatures drop to -30 degrees Celsius in winter, signifies a remarkable technological advancement in the region. Once operational, it is expected to play a crucial role in the decarbonization and modernization of the defense sector in the Himalayan border areas. This partnership highlights the commitment towards renewable energy adoption and sustainable practices in critical sectors, setting a positive precedent for similar endeavors in challenging terrains.
