Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Visakhapatnam on November 29, 2024, to inaugurate the NTPC-led Green Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka, Atchutapuram Mandal, Andhra Pradesh. The project, a joint effort between NTPC Limited and APGenco, represents a massive investment of Rs 84,700 crore and aims to establish Andhra Pradesh as a global leader in clean energy production. The Green Hydrogen Hub, a key part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, will have the capacity to generate 20 gigawatts of clean electricity and produce 1,200 tons of green hydrogen daily for conversion into export-grade green ammonia and green methanol. The project is not only focused on energy production but also on fostering innovation. It will include facilities for electrolyzer and fuel cell manufacturing, support for startups, and infrastructure to bolster ancillary industries in the clean energy sector. This initiative is in line with India's commitment to becoming a hub for green hydrogen production and export, as part of the country's efforts to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and support global decarbonization initiatives. NTPC's involvement in the renewable energy sector is expanding, with the Pudimadaka Green Hydrogen Hub set to be India's largest such facility. The hub, along with other renewable energy projects, is a significant part of NTPC's strategy towards achieving sustainable and round-the-clock renewable power solutions. The production timeline for green hydrogen at the hub is estimated at around five to six years, considering the complexities of establishing a green hydrogen ecosystem. After the foundation stone laying by PM Modi, the hub is expected to be accessible to manufacturers in the green hydrogen sector within the next three years, signaling a positive step towards a more sustainable future.
